2 strong 50 Hp
Dick, at Merritt Marine informed me that my 2 stroke 50 HP Mercury motor should turn about 5400 to 5600 RPM at full throtle with average weight in the boat. For my 17 ft logic he was spot on at 32 mph I turn 5400 rpm. He told me the motor operates best in this RPM range and to correct this I could change props with a different pitch. I would check with your dealer but 3000 rpm sounds real low.
As I am typing I thougth of something else. You speed sounds about right. I bet you just need to adust you tachometer. There should be an adjsutment on the back of the tach for different pole settings. Adjust until you see the motor idiling at about 800 rpm. I think the Mercury 50 hp is a 12 pole.
Hope this helps.
