I have 3 :wink:
1. Use the factory base (if you can find them, they are getting hard to find)
2. Use a quick release bracket so you can quickly remove it from the boat when traveling.
3. I also use one of those wide velcro "Rod Holder" straps to secure the motor when folded down that I wrap the shaft and around the cleat that works well. If not, sometimes the motor when launching off a 2 foot wave, may pop up and slide into the running position (not good)

And if you get the Minn Kota with the Auto Pilot system, spend the extra cash and get the Co-Pilot remote they work great together and one can stand on the leaning post and control the boat. Matter of fact, I jumped off the boat onto a dock one day to retrive my stuck lure and when I turned around, the boat had drifted with the wind about 20 feet away :shock: .

I just called the boat back over (like a dog) to the dock with the remote that I had hanging on my belt loop ! Almost too cool and saved me from getting wet ! Ha-Ha...
