Fropfreak, you asked a very good question.

We have a 15-year-old beagle at home that cannot travel, but when she is gone, wife and I want to be on the go and see more of this great country, with our boat in toe most of the time.

Part of what you ask you have already considered I am sure. Remove all of the electronics and other “stuff” from the boat that you can. No sense making it easy for anyone to walk off with what you paid for. In my case, I can remove the anchor, the Raymarine C120, the Raymarine L1260DRC, and miscellaneous stuff, but almost impossible to remove the Radome Antenna, the VHF radio, and the two Digital antennas.

Once you have removed all that you easily can from the boat, the rest is up to you and your place of lodging. If you call ahead and explain that you will be towing a boat and your concerns, you might get more help than you thought. I have had a motel let me park the boat and tow vehicle next to the front door so it had lights on it all night and was visible from the front desk. You might have to carry your own hose, but they will probably let you use their water for flushing. I think the key is communication with your lodging place in advance and carrying copies of your communication with you at all times (employees change jobs or are on a different shift when you show up).

I hope that others will offer their suggestions. Like you, I need to learn as much as I can.
