Sounds as if you trimed it till you lost some bite and that is why you did not feel no real speed increase. Trim to your best speed at WOT and then tell us what your GPS speed and RPM was? Then we will know if you (though it sounds pretty close already) are proped correct  Also, what kind of prop is this and how many blades?
