I uploaded some photos of my trolling motor. Check my member gallery (nymart). I have a Motor Guide 82lb thrust with a 48" shaft. The shaft length is plenty so I don't think you need to go to a 54". You really need to go as high in thrust lb as you can afford. I stopped at 82lb only because it was the biggest that I could find for a 24V system and I didn't want to add another battery. I run two batteries for the trolling motor and one for the engines, etc. Four batteries was just too much for me. I got it 2 years ago though and haven't looked lately. If you can get anything stronger than 82lb and still be 24V or if you don't mind going to 36V then do it. Not that the 82lb isn't enough to move the boat or hold it in some wind or current, but more power is always better than less for these things. IMHO.
