The only concern I would have is the amount of work involved. It is no easy task to dig the foam out, after you cut thru the top of the gunwale. Then, you still have the same issue with water if it gets in the new rod holders as the standard holders. That is why we chose rail mount rod holders and rod holders that use our track mount system.
