When wiring to the fuse block, remove the inline fuse that comes with the radio as it can become a trouble spot over time, ie: Another corrosion point.
Also use a fuse in the block of equal or slightly less amp rating as the original inline. Use marine grade crimp-on splices and connectors with the proper crimping tool. I recommend the ratcheting type as opposed to the plier type. (Available at most automotive parts stores). The common ground point on the fuse block works well with VHF but more elaborate grounding systems are essential with SSB marine radios or Ham Band transceivers. The Icom web-site is a good source of what is required for HF installations.
On another story, I've encountered the VHF radio transmitter to cause interference with other electrical equipment on many vehicles and boats. the most commom is the entertainment radio (FM Stereo) and once on (of all things) the windshield wipers of a police car. All problems are solvable. perserverance is the key. Basic rule-- If ungrounded, ground it. If grounded, try ungrouning it. Good Luck
