Foxbo, I have a 2004 170CC and the max HP is 75. I beleive the max HP was reduced from 90 to 75HP back in 2003 due to a lak of stabilty with the 90 HP at WOT with a lightly loaded hull. I was told that chine walking was the problem and that many owners did not care for the hull listing from side to side at max speed.
Reducing the HP and or max speed extends the area of the hull contacting the water and increased the stability as would also be the case by adding passangers or otherwise increasing the weight.
For some one who really wants to use a 90 hp motor, I beleive a used 2002 170 is the way to go to assure keeping the warranty active and staying with in the design limits of the certification plate. Bob
