I received the following word from Triumph on this issue:

We have gone to a better quality pump that is resistant to the chemical reaction between the pump housing and the vinyl hose. Also we have gone to a tournament style aerator pump. It was not the tightening that caused the problem but the reaction between pump and hose.
I would suggest contacting your Triumph dealer for information on the new pumps.
