A proper floor would be flat. My battery compartment floor is the bilge. My battery is sitting on top of one of the bilge box beams that runs the length of the boat. The beam is not in the center of the compartment and the battery sits crooked on top of it.

I have though about getting a plastic cutting board to use as a floor but haven't figured out how to make sturdy supports to hold it in place.

Also blacter, it isn't that the strap isn't strong enough to keep it in place, it is that the strap is attached to that beam and the battery cannot sit level so it just bounces around no matter what you do with it the way it is.

There are some posts in some of these forums that show what people have done to add floors to some of the compartments. You can try searching for them to see if that is of any help. Also, when you replace the tiedowns for the strap you should use aluminum or stainless steel. Plastic tie downs can't take the stress.
