I dont think that it should be a real worry. I created that problem with my boat and didnt even know it. I had about a 5 mph loss of top end and that was pretty much it. I realized I had a problem when I bilge pump kept kicking on and I found the water was coming up though a pin hole in the floor of the bilge. Easy fix. welded the pin hole shut. and had the hull drained and a drain put in the transom. no problem since.
