I do agree the fish boxes and macerator pump thing can be a frustration. This year I have been carrying a fish bag or kill bag as some people know them. We have had a couple trips where the boat has been way too plugged with fish for just the bag, but it those cases we ice them down in holds. One thing that has worked really well for me is putting a bed of ice down first in the holds before the fish go to make a buffer between the drain and the fish. Any misc. pieces that come off then tend to be easier to get out before into the bilge.
