Fuel tank siphon fitting

While out fishing in the Delaware Bay this past week in my 2001 210 the engine started to run rough and would stall out. There is an anti-siphon fitting on top of the fuel tank, this fitting comes in contact with the removable floor panel. My guess is that since the floor panel in somewhat flexible the pressure from walking on this valve caused it to weaken and finally split. Luckily it was found quickly. I had to remove the fuel gauge sensor(float), cut the fuel line and stick it in the fuel tank and made it back to the dock. Installed a new valve, $15, and was back fishing in two hours. Very poor design for the location of this valve.
