Mounting a kicker motor

PK195dc,
I mounted a kicker motor on my 170 bass by using a solid piece of mohagany wood. My concern was that if the motor was too far back from the transom, it would be hard (and perhaps dangerous) to start, adjust the throtle, etc. Therefore I mounted it as far forward as possible. I also had to buy a kicker motor that came with a long shaft.
