First off, I have never heard about "not" using any chain and I have had 2 of these boats. But if you want to save on your back, use a lighter anchor, and save on the amount of "Rode" (anchor line) you want to pay out to hold the boat into place, Then the longer the section of chain the better...

I used two 6 foot vinyl cover sections of chain together (should be some pictures in the 210 mods section of my old set-up), and was able to save on about 15% of the line I use to have pay out on my old 210 when fishing offshore many years ago.

Now I just push the button on my Power Pole to hold my boat into place
