NJWARDY,
I'm like putershark. The more chain the better holding power you have. If you're anchoring in deep water (over 30') or in a strong current such as an inlet you will need the extra chain to set your anchor. the nylon rope has a tendency to float your anchor (shaft?) or lift it which pulls your anchor loose especially in sandy bottoms. You can get by with a lighter anchor and less rope with longer chain. I used 10' chain on my 170CC and still use that on my 195CC so far. I think I read where Genelie or someone uses 25' of anchor chain. If you are in a lake with no current I'm sure 3' would work okay unless you're caught in a storm with strong winds.
