OK - we finally solved OUR problem. This might not be a solution for others, but it was mine.

Today we filled up our splashwells with water and there were NO leaks. Tyhe water stayed in the splashwells.

I use size 9 1/2 plugs in the forward part of the splashwell and size 7 in the stern openings.

After over 30 minutes, water did not leak out in either direction.
