When buying any boat it is wise to consider installing the maximum horse power rated engine you can hang on it. Boats are not like Cars and Trucks and do not glide very far when you get off the throttle. It takes a lot of work to both get, and keep your boat on a plane and one can get into what is called the “Point of Diminishing Returns” real fast by under powering a boat and could burn even more fuel by having a smaller engine working at max grunt all the time just to move her.
Now some of this can be offset by not loading one down heavy most times and keeping the fuel tanks at 1/2 or lower which has the addeded benefit of reducing your draft if you fish in the skinny stuff like I always do.
Just something else to think about
