Hey guys...thanks for the info. I did find a switched pink wire that I hooked the plus side of the hour meter up to. The easiest way to work on the wires, I found, is to unplug the wire harness under the dash and then remove the ignition switch plate. I then hooked up the harness under the dash so the ignition switch and all its wires were hanging out of the hatch way. A lot easier for this old body to sit in the seat rather than get contorted to work on the backside of the dash.
Rather than splice wires, I found I could strip about .25 inch off the ends and then work them into wire plugs that were already installed in the lines. The soft rubber/plastic housing for the wire plugs holds the hour meter wires in place. No soldering or taping necessary! A few wire ties to clean up the wiring and it's ready to go.
Now to get to the lake and finish breaking in the yami.....might have to take my tackle along in case I get attacked by some trout!
