boy that is a dilemma is there any way you can find out who the other owner was. it sounds like the seller did not know much about the boat. maybe the first owner if there was another one can tell you what he did about the batteries . the only other thing see if minn kota makes just a 12 v motor just the motor part it self. that will fit in the houseing .. good luck
