To me, that doesn't sound like a responsible answer from a dealer. If I can spend $50 now and avoid all the hassle of dealing with cracks around the transom and eventually getting it repaired under warranty, boating down time, etc., I consider it money well spent.

What's that old saying about an ounce of prevention....?
