Scott,
Again, congrats on your new boat. If you've already put a deposit on the boat then you already know the positives...as for the negatives, that's just someone else's opinion anyway. I also have a 170CC/60 hp Merc. I love the boat. I think Fridaysoff made a great point about the swim platform. Even with someone else in the boat, getting a person out of the water can be a real challenge. I put one on my boat just for the peace of mind knowing that if I go overboard I can get back in. I fish primarily in fresh water rivers with lots of boat traffic. If I have a breakdown, I know it won't be long before help arrives. In addition to the standard Coast Guard safety items, I would suggest a good GPS (even a handheld model would work, that's what I use) and a cell phone and/or VHF radio. Add a quality first aid kit and a good pair of pliers/wire cutters to help remove any wayward hooks and you're set. Have a great time on your new toy.
