Reminds me too much of the old Coast Guard Motto "They say we have to go, but nobody says we have to come back" still holds true... The boat should have never gone out (bad choice) the Coastie's though don't have the luxury of a choice... Glad to see the Chopper Crew is OK and they got very lucky.
A few weeks back, I took my wife and Daughter to the local CG station to say hi and take a tour since my wife never saw me when I was on duty many years ago... It was like a time warp for many things were the same yet many had changed (technological advancements) like the new 47 footers (nice ride) and I hear that my old 41 and 44 footers are pretty much all gone. That is when you know it has been a while, when they retire your old rides! Ha-Ha...
So if you ever get a chance, call your local CG station (if you have one) and see if you can get a tour and shake the hands (when they are dry) of the guys who just may have to use that same hand to pull you out of the water one day... They are also (I know we were) big fans of Chocolate Chip Cookies And keep them "all" (not just the Coastie's) in your prayers...
