They showed a picture of the boat upside down on the sand, it looks like it came through pretty well, here's the news story ...

Two die, helicopter goes down in boat rescue

The Times-Standard
MANILA A mother and son from Eureka died Saturday afternoon when their boat capsized in waves and the Coast Guard helicopter attempting to rescue them crashed into the water.

Vesta Lorraine Baker, 82, died at the scene and her son, Charles Wayne Baker, 59, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Humboldt County Coroner s Office said the official cause of death was salt water drowning.

Two others who were on the boat were taken to the hospital. None of the four-member helicopter crew was hurt.

It's a shame these things happen, this was for sure not the fault of the boat, the seas were fairly calm here today, with swells from 6' to 10'
winds to 15, so to me it looks like operator error.

I'll keep an eye out for the CG investigation report.
