I have also seen (just can't find a picture right now) of a removable tongue trailer that just slides and is pinned back into place. That type of system I would think could be built on your present unit, and I would think much stronger than one that just swings out of the way... This since it could be braced much further back the center axis of the trailer and beefed up all at the same time.
