Peek up inside the coupler and see (some can) if you can adjust how it grabs the ball. Sounds like it is too tight and there is a happy medium for sure... This for if it becomes too loose, it then feels as if you are getting bumped into every time you hit the brakes so it may take some time and adjustments to get it just right I also put a little white marine grease on the ball, and then use a simple plastic cover to help keep it from drying all out all the time I am not towing the boat.
