Never heard of such either... Breaking how? The screw pulling out or is the screw snapping in half  I have even taken mine off and on to help clean the windscreen and never has such an issue. I though, would have them snug (not super tight) and you should be fine. I would also make sure you are re-using the same washers to help spread out any load on the Plexiglas.
