Smile Uv Protection

Would it be beneficial for me to use an additional UV Protectorant on the hull of my 235 that you are presently building for me to be shipped to Great Bay Marine. I was thinking of a Collinite Product such as their liquid wax. Any downside to using this product? Would it also be possible to give me a ballpark figure on when my boat may be delivered. I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas and I'm 64 years old. My name is Edward Ammon and the salesperson is Ron DeMarco. Thanks!

Triumphed, the color is the same - all the way thru the material.

Some use an electric buffer. The buffing action creates heat which will bring back the sheen. Others have used a product like Armour All on the hull.

I am not saying I will never do this, but one of the reasons we purchased a Triumph was so we never had to polish (except the stainless). My pressure washer gets her clean. In my opinion, our 2005 210 CC looks as good as the day we purchased her.

Maybe I should have been more specific about why I was thinking about putting a UV Blocker on the hull. There has been some discussion about the long term effects of the sun on Ropelene. Is there a weakening factor involved with long term exposure to the sun? If so, why wouldn't a UV blocker help? Can it hurt in anyway by using a UV Blocker? I would think over the long haul it can only help. I don't necessarily want the extra work, but if it helps, I'm using it. I realize the hull has a lifetime warranty but that still doesn't answer the question if it's beneficial or not to use a UV Blocker. Thanks to OspreyVic for his original reply.

I'd imagine you could use it without harm but the plastic has UV inhibitors all the way through it.

Some of the internet BS floating about on other sites about these boats is astounding. There are a couple of "Gentlemen" (Loosely applied term here) that have an obsessive fixation about Triumph boats and love nothing more than to take an unsubstantiated rumor and blow it out of proportion and spread it far and wide.

That particular UV damage story elicited a number of great posts both here and over on THT from folks that own Triumphs and also some who appeared to be quite expert in the plastics industry.

My 2005 that I purchased in 5-2005 has pretty much sat outside with a tarp covering it since then and quite frankly the only degradation of plastic I've noted on the entire boat was the edges of the plastic rod holders in the console are getting a little gray and flaky which tells me the plastic they were made of isn't all that good. The hull and all ropalene areas on the boat are fine and look like new so again in answer to your question, do it if it makes you happy but it really isn't necessary.

One word of caution though be real careful with that darn Armorall stuff, it's dangerous. I was using some to clean the cushions and inadvertantly had some overstray get on the deck. I didn't notice it and the next time I went fishing I durn near skated clear over the side when the deck got wet. Lucky I had a deck brush and some comet abaord.

Thanks Jan for taking the time to reply. I like to take care of my stuff and I want to do the right thing. I'm hoping more members will weigh in on this issue and give me their ideas(especially the factory). You are so right about Armorall being dangerous. About like ice skating. Thanks again for your input!

Triumphed,
Take the time that you will spend with the wax and go ride in and enjoy your plastic boat!!!! I had a 2004 170CC and just picked up my new 195CC. The 04 looked as good as the day I bought it 4 years later. I bought a good sunbrella cover and thats all I did to protect the boat. I ordered a new cover for my new boat the day I received the boat. Keeps the trash/leaves etc. out. Take it off and go fishing. Easy as pie to maintain.I'm 60 years old and my ropelene hull boat will probably outlast me. Use the wax on your tow vehicle!! After a while you'll get over waxitis...Good luck.

Thanks fridaysoff. Nice to know your boat still looked great through the years. Good to know you went out and bought another Triumph. No better endorsement than that. Thanks for your input.

Word from the factory:

Quote:
As stated by the owners, the material has U.V. inhibitors as well as color
concentrate infused in the material. Applying a UV inhibitor is not
necessary nor will it hurt anything unless the wax has a color such as tan,
buffing this with a high speed buffer could stain the Surface.

For clarification Ron...this website is owned and operated by me as a fellow Triumph Boat owner. I am not affiliated with Triumph Boats directly in anyway. You would need to contact your dealer or Triumph Boats directly to find out about your boat order. I created this website for other Triumph Boat owners like myself to share information and invite participation by dealers and Triumph factory folk in these forums if they choose, however I do require that they identify themselves as a dealer in their title.

Thanks to NCangler for your clarification. Sounds like I may be backing off on the waxing. Don't want to waste my time if I don't have to. Definitely would rather play than work.
