Question Running Battery Cables from Bow to Stern

Boat: 2005 BAY 190

Issue: 36 volt trolling motor mounted on engine cavitation plate. Battery compartment for the three required batteries is in the bow.

How can I run the battery cables from the stern to the bow? Where can I purchase tinned cables long enough to complete the run?

Any answers out there?

Chris

Smile Going to hurt the wallet

Shop around the internet.

West Marine sells tinned cable, but, you will pay top dollar.

Try this:

Cabela's -- Marine-Grade Wire=

I used the 6 guage wire for my 24 volt trolling motor.

You can pick up the battery terminal connectors at Boater's World.

Ancor Ancor Battery Lugs - BoatersWorld.com

Add some shrink wrap:

Ancor 3/4'' Black/Red Heat Shrink - 326202 - BoatersWorld.com

Good luck.

cagrove,
Thanks for all the good info on this. I plan to install a trolling motor in the future, now all I need to do is come down to VA and let you do it for me. Haha

Bring it on...my rates are 1 cold beverage per hour...pretty cheap in the scheme of things. Actually, installing mine was a fairly easy project. You should have no problems.

Here was the factory response:

It will take quite a bit of wiring and possibly removing the console as the rigging tube for the bow is under the bait well on that Model year. I would suggest taking it to a dealer.

Battery Cable

Assuming a .5 amp draw per pound of thrust, and a circuit length of 40 ft (from battery + to motor to battery -), you would need a minimum of 4 AWG wire. I can sell you the wire for 1.50/foot plus terminals & shipping, If you would like, I can crimp the terminals on before I ship you the wire. Let me know if you think you want to tackle the project yourself.
