Skyhunter1,
I have never fished in those waters, but I here there are huge fish (stripers, and such) down there. I watched a show the other day on Versus and they were fishing for large stipers out of Virginia Beach, Va. I think they went out of Rudee Inlet Station Marina and fished inside the bay area, you may want to call there to get more information. The number is 757-422-2999. Here is there website also.

Good luck and good fishing.

Jim

PS: I lived in Petersburg for a short time when my dad was stationed at Ft. Lee way back in the late 1960's.

Hi flatfishmoe,
Where do you fish in your area (NC). I have a brother that lives in the Fayetteville area and his son is an avid bass fisherman. He goes up to Lake Gaston a good bit. I here that it is good for stripers also. I may try it there someday.

Fish

Jim
I fish alot of places right now I'm bass fishing a small lake in the Durham area and stripers on Kerr lake which is just south on Gaston. Falls lake is also good bass lake in Durham. This week I go to Weldon and fish the Roanoke river the stripers are there in big numbers and 100 fish days were we go down river is a blast. Starting in May it's to the Cape Fear for Flounder and To the Chesapeake Bay for Flounder and everything else when I can get up there. The winter time is back to Kerr and for big Stripers you can not beat the Chesapeake Bay one Sat. in 12/2007 we caught 14 fish over 35 lbs. Here a pic. from Wed. after work this past week.

Todd,
Those are some nice bass. I am just getting in to fishing again and have been fighting the rain and cold up here. I've only been out 3 times so far. I just got back home 30 minutes ago from chasing huge stripers up the susquehanna river. Didn't hook any tonight but got one about 30 lbs Wednesday before last. I saw a couple tonight that were 45~50 lbs. on other boats. Sounds like I need to move south for better weather.

About to go crazy been rained in all weekend. I don't think I would go anywhere if I was you with 50lb stripers in the water.

Todd,
Your right, but those fish only stay here a short while when spawning then head back out. I have to have other places to try.

Where do you fish for flounder in the Cape Fear River? Near the coast I presume, how big are they there? I used to fish for them in Ocean City, MD. and plan on going back there this year. I love eating them as much as stripers.

Jim

PS: I tried to attach a pic of one striper that we caught last week, don't know if it worked though.
