Thats a good point Cagrove. Most of the time I'm in min of 4-5ft some times over 100 so I should be OK. I just like the the idea of how easy it is to use. Do you think 55lb thrust will be enough to push my 170cc?

55lbs should be sufficient for your boat. The 170CC is a light boat. My trolling motor has 5 speeds and I very seldom go above 3. Most of the time I'm in the lowest speed. Good luck with your setup and show us some photos when you "git r done".

thanks Cargrove, and I will post some photos. It may be a few more week as the high temp up here in Maine this weekend will be 0-5. Not the best instilation weather. thanks again.

has anyone every installed a JackPlate? Instead of tilting the motor it just rises up but there could be some hull warranty or install issues.

I think that may give you some clearance but you still run into the problem that your lower unit/skeg will be below your engine mounted trolling motor thereby limiting how shallow you can go. Where I fish that setup wouldn't work for me but others may find it ideal.

jack plates are not allowed on warranty covered boats. Q2 owners can do as they please and the jack should get you up enough to get the skeg above the keel but i would think you will bottom out b4 the skeg were to be an issue----but then again ,YOU CANT USE A JACKPLATE TO BEGIN WITH ----SO NEVERMIND

i know that puter had one on a 210 for performance issues and i'm sure we can get a response from him on this

Guess a tunnel hulled boat might benefit from a jack plate moreso than others with running in skinny water.
