Thumbs up Latest Weapons of choice

Here are the Redfish Magic Baits that I have changed up that seem to work the best along with a "Winter Bait" prototype of the DOA Terror Eyes that we feel has promise...

Modified Lures - Triumph Boat Owners - Photo Gallery

The Top one is a "Stock" offering from Strike King

The center one is the DOA Terror Eyes that I have added a rattle and spinner blade to... The setup has several advantages for Winter water work that we will be testing such as...
  • Smaller so it enters the water quieter like a little mud crab. Those Reds get real spooky in the gin clear winter water.
  • The blade helps slow down the fall as well as give some "Pinfish" flash even though the Pinfish have long gone by that time...
  • The rattles give a the crab clicking noise which is the major forge item for winter Reds
  • We will work this lure as a jig more than a true spinner bait just like the Strike King setup now...
The Bottom one is another offering that I have created from a stock "Redfish Magic" that the Reds have been hitting pretty regular. It has a heaver jig head and that body is one that I buy in bulk from Fisherman's World in New Port Richey that they pour. It has a nice Rootbeer color, some gold glitter and a nice fat curly tail

And here is another view of the same 3 baits...

As far as the big Gator Trout go, this color Skitter Walk (Hot Steel) is the one that seems to get crashed the most. My theory is that it looks both like a Finger Mullet as well as a smaller Sea Trout, and we all know how Seat Trout just hate having another one (the cannibals) smaller trout in striking distance

It also has updated Red VMC Hooks and of course crushed down barbs Now with the Skitter Walks, we seem to get more to the boat since we have gone to 25 lbs (very clear) mono leader so we get some more shock effect.

The spinner baits though get 20 pound florcarbon leader all the time since they are sub surface lures. Both leaders are at least 6 feet long so the fish are not as line shy as they could be by using as shorter one

Tight Lines fellow flats hunters, and let me know how these work for you

Thanks!

Yes we have and my partner loves the real bright green bodies with a red head as for myself, I like the Rootbeer color since it looks more like a mud crab. As we all know though, if they are hungry the Reds will crash just about anything if presented correct

If I was a Redfish, I would just boil around the bait on every third cast just to drive you nuts...kind of payback for when I was younger and actually fell for those things. It's a good thing I'm not a Redfish!

I have tried the redfish magic, but only in the electric chicken color and not had much luck. I'll try the rootbeer as you've done to see if they like those any better. We're partial to 1/4 oz red jigs with Gulp shrimp, but I like the idea of the spinner to slow the fall of the jig. How did you rig the rattles? I can't tell from your pictures.

Only the DOA has the rattles and just insert a standard bass worm rattle on in the butt section

The Root beer color though has always been my favorite and the curly tail Redfish magic bait I modified has gotten me my largest Redfish of the year (36 inch 14.5 pound) beast by slow rolling and jogging in a channel drop next to a oyster bed
