plumer17,
I don't know if I understand your question correctly, but you don't have to register your VHF with the coast guard or the FCC any longer. The telecommunications act of 1996 permits recreational boaters to have and use a VHF marine radio without having a FCC ship station license. If you are asking about the new DSC self ID code for emergency DSC transmission on a VHF I'm as dumb as a rock on that subject. I've asked several people that I thought had a clue but to no avail as of yet. My Garmin GPS will connect to my VHF but I haven't figured it out yet. I may just buy an EPIRB and be done with it.

BTW I added a "Radio Call Sign" and "DSC-VHF MMSI#" field to our User Profile on the site. You can edit this by going to User CP>Edit Profile. The fields are near the bottom of the page.
