11-01-2008 hunting/ camping with the family

Well I was able to do 2 things with one trip. I got to go camping with the family, and while they were sleeping I was able to go duck hunting, it worked out great.

Early morning approaches as I was in one pond, and my hunting partners were in the other pond. It was quite warm this day, and the birds seemed to love it and wanted to land in the cool water. It was nice to see that I spead the decoys out in such a way that the birds loved what they saw. I had birds coming in from all directions and land right into the deeks, which is always a plus, but again, I had the deeks a bit 2 close. (It is sometimes hard to judge distance from your blind while placing the decoys.) So as they were locking down the landing gear I would expose myself, so I don't shoot them to close. All worked out and was done within 2 hours. As you can see I have my son working the dog in the last 2 pictures. It is our friends dog, he was having a blast....I think it is time to get one myself.

Genelie,
I always knew duck hunters were a little strange but when you talk about exposing yourself to ducks, I really have to draw the line. I mean, c'mon...that's just weird!!!!

Seriously, congrats on the hunting...sounds like you have that down to a science. Good on ya!

Good to see you make it a family affair. Raised 3 sons and 1 daughter and they all still enjoy camping and 3 of them hunting and fishing. Now I'm working on the grandkids. Point is your making great memories with your son and family. Good move on getting a bird dog. James
