rear cleats strength?

A buddy has a 26ft (3000lb) sail boat (without sails or motor) that he wants to haul out from a nearby (2mi) ramp. The waters are shallow and protected so large waves are not a problem. I have a 17cc with a 90 2S and am not a real idiot.

Will the rear cleats work or should I use the tiedown hardware to tow him? Or should I let someone else help him out (free beer is involved in this deal)??????

Thanks- Bob

I have a special rig I make for all my boats for towing and being towed from my Old Coast Guard Aux Days. FL 51 3rd dist NY. But you can get by by running 1 LONG ROPE THRU THE rear TOW/LIFT ring RUN IT around and THRU 1 TIME. Then around the cleat on that side to the other side clete, around it and down thru the other ring around 1 time then tie it so as to be one big loop. the strain will be born equal by all four attachment points. Put the tow line around this line so it rides free and the towed boat is centered in your wake. Go slow you will be fine.

thats real nice info, I have a set up for towing people on tubes and such. It snap rings onto both rear boat tie down on the transom. then connects to a swivel pully. I think that too could work for towing another boat.
