Bilge Pump Question?

I have just purchased a 2001 210 CC logic. I am having a problem.. when the bilge pump toggle switch is in auto position is does not work, when in manual position it works for 10 to 15 seconds the trips the breaker. When I reset the breaker it will only run another 10 to 15 seconds & trips again. Can anyone give me an idea of what might be going on? ANY suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Well, first guess would be that you have a short in the pump. But I would first check the wiring at the pump. These could be loose and why it is shorting out and not running in auto mode. If that doesnt work, pull the pump and with the wires above the water, turn the switch on. If the breaker pops again, you have a short in the wiring that supplies the pump and or the switch itself. If not, then using a test light complete the circuit and see if that pops the breaker. If it does then the breaker is weak. If not then the pump is most likely the issue so I would try changing it out.

Hope this helps

last yr christmas I had that exact problem. I was in naples FL unfortunatly and it was chirstmas. Hard to find an open store. I had to get a new pump as the wireing was fine. the freezing of my pump did something to it. I was able to get a new one at west marine and after replacing it, it worked fine.
