Logic 17SC

Hey everyone! My wife and I just bought a 2001 Logic 17SC. Spent the weekend on Lake Mary Jane here in the Orlando area. Loved the boat! Sure was hot, though, and without a ladder we were hesitant to get into the water to cool down. I guess a ladder will be the first project. I have seen some posts regarding ladders but if anyone has some advice it would be greatly appreciated!

Sea ya,
Doug

Hi Doug. Congratulations on the 175 and welcome aboard. I am in the process of producing a video on maintenance and some modifications of Triumph Boats. one of the segments on the DVD will be the installation of swim platform and ladder. The DVD should be finished by the end of this month and I'll be posting a note about it when it is ready for distribution.

Thanks, Chuck. I am looking for the finer details I guess. For example, do you mount the ladder with screws into the transom (is it solid?) or do you use bolts that extend into the battery compartment where you attach the nuts? And do you need a backing plate? I am coming from a sailing perspective where the transom is pretty thin on the sailboats that I have mounted ladders and engine brackets to and I have always used bolts and a backing plate.

Toggle bolts are the way to go and make this a very easy installation.

It actually depends on how your swim platform mounts. If it mounts directly to the transom wall from the rear, then yes, togglers are the way to go. If you get one like I have, it mounts to the top of the transom as well as the rear. It only required screws.

Here's a picture of mine from the top down.

It's been through many outings with the kids tubing and swimming. Still very sturdy. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the pic, Chuck. What ladder did you install? I was looking at a Garelick2 step that just mounts to the back of the transom but also looked at their 3 step ladder that would mount to the top as well as the rear. But I like that the one that you installed also has a platform.

It's actually the one made by Triumph for the 170CC. If I remember correctly, it wasn't the most inexpensive ladder out there but worth the hassle to me of trying to find one that would fit the transom with it's limited space. If you're willing to check around you could probably find one that will fit nicely and save a few bucks in the process.
