Artee,

I live in Maine and purchased the same model with a 115 2-stroke Johnson in April of this year. I am mostly happy with it. I run it in the Kennebec River estuary which is heavy tidal and allows for ocean access. It is my first boat. I was looking for a towable striper/blue fishing platform and I have teenage kids that want to play with it too. I keep it moored but have no problems towing it either.

Look at the hull to make sure is is not deflected in anyway from poor trailer storage. Check the side scuppers, the originals are not very good and allow water to flow onto the deck if you have several people aft. I replaced mine with ball-scuppers and they work great ($25). The storage/live well lockers do not keep out rain water. This is a common complaint for the early Logic models. I am sure I can fix this but haven't figured it out yet. Make sure you at least ask about the functionality of the bilge and live well pumps.

I think I did OK. It is a very tough boat that planes nicely with the motor I have and can easily run up to 33 knots or more without trouble. Its wide beam is very nice in a chop and with squeamish boaters. I was told that the boat I purchased only ran in fresh water for about 50 hours. It had been stored outside for a couple of years. I paid $9,500 for the boat, motor and trailer. This seemed like a good price in Maine at the time given the boat type, size and motor. Not sure how prices vary regionally in New England.

Hope this is helpful. BTW I have found this website very helpful as an owner of a Logic/Triumph - it answers many questions that pop up.

Chipper

Artee,

I also have a 2001 Logic 186 Cool Bay with a 2 stroke 115 HP Johnson on the Kennebec in Maine. Along with Chipper's excellent suggestions you will want to give the hull a thorough going over for cracks, check the deck hardware screws for tightness and ability to remain so, the deck around the scuppers for signs of cracks and make sure all instruments work.

Ask for a sea trial, observe her handling characteristics and the speed at which she planes out which should be around 3400 rpm with a couple people on board and half a fuel load. Make sure she reaches close to the recommended 5500 rpm at wide open throttle and about 38-40 mph on the gauge as well.

Once you're satisfied you will have a nice, responsive boat that will handle moderately sloppy conditions economically and well.

Dick

I may suggest that you try punching in the data as to what is on the boat at the Blue Book website to see what price pops up for that boat that you are looking at.
As suggested below, see if you can go for a test ride.
I too have a 2001 Logic but mine has the 2002 Suzuki 115 4 stroke so it sits lower in the water at the hiney end. Water will come in the rear through the side scuppers but that's no problem for me. Just get it on plane and the water disappears. It's magic!
