Exclamation 01 210 mega storage box drain tube install

i moved this post from the 210 mod.forum to here and edited my posts to how i actually installed the pvc tube. this was easier than rewriting it---hope it doesnt confuse any of you
robert

most of you are aware of the "leak" between the megga storage box up front and the bilge i have .that causes water to migrate into the inner hull.
i was at merritt today getting some stuff and thanks to dick ,i now know why it was leaking and what to do to fix it without removing the console. what he told me is in my opinion is important enough to post here for all owners and especially early model year owners in particular to be aware of.
it appears early on the mold for this area had a plug that when removed after the plastic was melted would create a hole for the water to run thru out of the megga. apparantly the plastic was not melting correctly and there would be cracks or voids in the channel . dick said the best way to know for sure if it is solidly formed is to look inside the hole in the floor of the megga with a bright light and see if there is any foam in the hole. foam is an indication that there is a crack and the foam filled this crack when it was injected .
the fix is to first remove the foam and find a piece of pvc pipe that will fit as tightly as possible to form a sleeve and rule it in place. i didn't do it when i got home but it is high on my to do list tommorrow.
i would suggest everyone that can do this inspection especially us older owners check for foam. if you dont have the inner hull drain mod. done you would never know the water is leaking into the foam. because i had the mod done i was seeing 3 times more water coming out the hull drain as out the drain plug in the bilge.

Il Logic,
just sent you another PM, but I would think your bilge drain would drain quickly, whatever what in there would just come out immediately, as opposed to the hull drain that trickles since water has to seep thru the foam.

The "Mega" is the large center storage area in the forward half of the 210. It has a large drain hole on the rear port side.

update--- install complete

i got the tube put in today and it directed all the water to the bilge not a drop came out the inner hull drain.
to my surprise the was no foam showing in the megga drain tube and i could not see any cracks when i shown my light in the hole. i found that thin walled 160 psi water pipe was the size to use. the drain tube tapers on the console end and it is loose enough that the rule can be smoothed out around the end that projects into the megga . i first cut a piece 18-20" and tapped it in till it was good and snug then measured it flush into the mega. some of you may not have the taper or not as much or more so cut the first piece long for you application and the cut to fit
put rule around the last 2 " enough to form a good seal around the pvc and smooth the excess around the end.

sounds like a pretty smooth fix. a bit confused on the 3/4" part into mega, do you mean you left it 3/4" sticking into mega or 3/4" into hole from mega, in other words is it sticking into your storage area? also did you get another plug for the new pipe?

I took a peak into mine yesterday without flashlight, didn't see anyfoam either, but lighting was bad, I did notice it tapered toward console end also.

If it doesn't stop raining up here in Vermont, I won't be able fix anything!!

did manage to bang 7 smallmouth bass yesterday in a local reservoir, biggest 3 pounds! first of the year....

that was out of my 15' boston whaler though.

It Wil Work Just As Godd To Cut The Pvc Flush With The Opening. Actually You Could Seal Around The End Better If Flush.
I Never Use A Plug In The Hatch.
