something i notice

when i was out fishing one night and i was in a little rough water an my scuppers weren't working that well i open the bilge inspection plate an when the water pumped down i notice that water was coming in from some old screw holes in the bilge compartment wall. I thought the water might have been coming from splash well but when i took it apart i really didn't see how it could come from that. I hope the water just entered and exited the holes in the wall. If there is another area that could let water enter there through the foam let me know so i can find it. I wonder if the boat has cracks in the hull bottom letting water in. I need dr. watson to find all the water access points.

Striper
This July my 03 210 started pumping water everytime I stepped into the boat. I could see water moving around in the bilge, but had no idea where it was coming from.
This was during mackfest and there were a number of the factory guys present. I believe it was Paul Miller that was kind enough to get them to look at my baot and figure out want was going on.
They found some kind of screwhole had blown out and was letting water trapped in the inner foam into the bilge. I forget the name of the factory guy that fixed it fro me I think (Dave). He had brougt a welder with him and welded up the hole for me that evening. He said that they have found that water has been migrating around the screws that mount the main drain cover ( the big brass looking grate under the boat.) He said that some time I may want to take the boat in and have the screen removed and the screws that go into the foam drilled out and filled with plastic and welded back closed before remounting the drain screen. I dont have the inner hull drain on my transom but may add that next yr.

water overflow

I know what your talking about same problem i believe the foam plug in the splash well might be leaking too maybe most of the water might be coming from that i notice it looked a little loose. When i put the inner hull drain i didn't have much water in there only dripped. But i am trying to acheive having the smallest amount of water from entering. By the way i did have a lot of water draining from the trim tab plates i just installed source of water unknown.

K9, You have pointed out two problems in your post. The first: 'where is the water coming from?' and the second 'why doesn't the bilge activate on it's own?'.

The water intrusion has many possibilities. I would question the screw hole problem at the baitwell drain through hull because the water would first have to fill the inner hull area and then leak into the bilge through some other hole in the inner hull. The drain grate is sealed with Rule on both sides. I would suspect something else. Bye any chance were you using your baitwell when the bilge filled and did you leave the pump on for extended periods? I experienced a bilge flood when I left the baitwell pump on overnight by mistake. Haven't found out how the water got in yet but will during the off season.

That highlights the second issue which is the bilge pump float not activating until you step into the boat. Myself and others have experienced this and it has to have to do with the design of the internal float switch. I will be replacing my bilge pump with one that has an external type float switch. That, of all your boat systems, must be reliable when you are not present.

Hope this helps, or at least gives you something to think about.

I was not using the baitwell, and the water was coming from the foam inner hulls through a hole that developed in the floor of the bilge. The hole in the floor of the bilge was pretty much in line vetically with the drain screen. I also thought that the rule would keep the water from migrating along the threads of the screws, but the factory hull guy said that they had found some that had been doing it. ( go figure).
As for the blige pump it was actually working fine. It just caught my attention by kicking on when I stepped on the boat. it would kick on when I was off the boat also when the water reached a certin level.
The hole in the bilge floor has been welded shut so now I guess I need to drain the inner hull foam. such it life.

Are these not warranty issues? I've been complaining to the factory in Raleigh for years. I own a 19 Bay and a 17 Cool. Both get gallons of water into the hull liners.

Neither of those 2 hull types (170 /190) have transom voids like the 210 has. If you are getting as much water as you say, I would be showing such to your nearest dealer for inspection. The 190 though can have inner hull drains installed (have them on mine) just like the 210. I though have never heard of a 170 having that kind of issue though...
