maintnance

I have all of my service done at the dealer. In the summer I put over 100 hours a month on the engine, so I want to have solid proof that it was maintained once warranty issues start coming up. I cant feel bad for you guys and your sub $200 tune ups. I just pulled the receipt and my 100 hour service at I-90 Marine just east of Seattle was $441.

After my first oil change at 20h was $115, I've done all my oil changes and bought a repair manual. Now at the 5 year mark, I might take it to the Zuke dealer for a look over on next oil change to check timing etc and replace impellar for the first time.

Had the option for 6 year warranty or a few hundred dollars, I took the cash. Worked for me and the Suzuki DF140 but used only 100h per year. Wow, 100h per month, I'd have taken the extended warranty for sure!

my new triumph has only 12hrs on the new e-tec so have done nothing yet, on my other boats i do the oil/filter tune ups etc. (inboard sunbird) and service the lower unit. on my old 60 johnson on the poontune i've done all maint except for a major rebuild that i had done at an independent shop that has a excellent track record ans reputation. on my e-tec i won't have to do anything until 3 years/300 hrs ( except fill the oil tank of course)

Got a new Etec 150, no maintenace what so ever for first 3 years !!!!! After that it's a trip to the dealer for a check-up.
Check it out at www.evinrude.com It's pretty cool watching the video comparing the tourque between the Yamaha and the Etec.

You know of course that is not really a fair compairison. They are compairing the Etec to a four stroke. The Yamaha F150 doesnt even compair to my yamaha 150 HPDI. If they want to compair apples to apples they should test it next to the HPDI.
I like the Etec and have looked at them with the idea of maybe repowering but the cost was a bit much, and I dont think it be that much of a proformance diff from my HPDI.

K9reno, The proformance may not differ much{ I'm not sure} but the service costs are a big difference over the life of the motor. Just a thought, Bob

Not long after I purchased my Triumph, bought it used last year, I had water in the oil. My boat is a 2003 but it has a 1999 Suzuki DF60. I figured it was a head gasket and checked around for prices on the repair. After hearing quotes of at least $1000.00 I bought a $62.00 manual and started turning wrenches. I have worked on my own cars and trucks for years. Nice thing about these four strokes is that once you pull the powerhead off, it is just like a car motor. Anyway, pulled the powerhead off, then tackled the head and found that I had a small hole corroded around the #4 piston. The motor was obviously run in alot of salt and not cleaned very well. Had a shop weld up the hole, cleaned all the old salt out of the motor and have had no problem since. This repair took me about 8 hours, being careful, and cost me less than $200.00.
