Post Which Type of Oil do you run?

2 Stroke or 4 Stroke engine it really does not matter, so which type of oil do you use?

After voting feel free to list that brand of oil your run in your engine in a reply to the poll and your results both good (less exhaust smoke for example) and bad (sparks plugs fowled quicker) with that brand of oil

My First Oil Change On My Yamaha 4 Stroke I Used Amsoil Synthetic Oil. After Much Discussion On This Site I Went To Yamaha Petro/synthetic Blend. Because Im Under Warranty Using Yamaha Petro/synthetic Seemed To Be The Smart Thing To Do. After Reading Much About Synthetic Oil Im Sold On It.

I honestly don't know as I have never changed the oil in my outboard(Honda 150). I have always taken it to the dealer for 20hrs then 100hrs service. I've been told that if you use synthetic oil it voids the warranty.
Regular 10w-30 is whats called for.

Told or read such?
I have never seen anything in any Honda documentation either in print or in their web site that has stated such...

Even this link http://www.honda-marine.com/FAQs.aspx#Synthetic only states that is must meet minimum requirements and get changed as recommended, but nothing about how it will void any warranty

Oh I agree, great product but it has just gotten so expensive... By the time you add a filter a Honda 150 change is in the 80 buck range (thankfully that is only a once a year change for most of us) and does the price even inculde shipping?

So what can you do price break wise for the guys here on the board here that would like to try this newer marine grade 4 stroke oil product from Amsoil?

Thanks!
Dave

Hi Dave, Sorry for the long reply. The best way to obtain Amsoil is through a local dealer. You can look on the corporate website for a dealer in your area. This will be the best way and you can save on shipping through a dealer.

I agree that it is a costly expense up front but the cost of a honda 150 is way more in comparison! I have been using Amsoil now for a few years and I sware by it. If you have any more ? feel free to write me.

Thanks, Zach
