Skeg Guard

I fish in Lower Alabama Delta and bump logs more than I want to. Does anyone use a skeg guard and can tell me about them.

My boat came with one and it still does not have a scratch (have not needed it yet) on it. It is added protection and I would recomend it if you bump logs or fish in the shallows.

Pete,

Have Skeg Guard on 2002 80 Yam./ 170 CC. Added after first two years of use and obvious polishing of skeg plus one ding. Fish shallow south FL and NC Cape Lookout area.

As good luck would have it, no additional dings after installation but the stainless steel of the skeg stays bright.

Purchase from Bass Pro. Installation was very simple. Typical shallow water operation will work on the factory fresh look of an outboard or OI skeg. This aftermarket accessory is cheap protection from sand, shells and the ocassional "ding".

Have a stainless steel skeg guard

Hi CubFan Pete,

I have a stainless steel skeg guard on my 75 hp Merc and I am very happy with it. I frequently run the Merrimack and Nashua Rivers here in New Hampshire and having the guard is a real plus. It also helps when I'm in unfamiliar waters and not sure how deep the bottom is, or when I'm just a klutz.

I recommend them. Mine was easy to install with a single bolt.

I hope that helps.
