Hey Genelie. Sorry you're having a problem with this. What size are the files you're trying to upload? I hope you'll be patient with me as I'm still tweaking all the software on the site as folks identify problems.

The first time I tried to do the picture thing I got the file to big warning. I took the picture to my photo editing program and edited and resized it so it was a small enough file to fit. If you have a photo program you can try that.

Thanks Reno for the input. What image editing program do you use? I should try to have a few to recommend to folks but I work on a Apple computer. Also what would be an ideal file size to shoot for. I don't think we want images larger than 800x600 or they'd be off most folks screens. Also if we don't limit the file size some we'll be paying for a whole lot of disk space and image loads will slow down. Is 500kb (half MB) decent? It was set at 100kb and I just bumped it up.

500KB is too large or we will Randy eat up server space quite fast. I work with true color JPEGS in 1024x768 Res all day long for posted technical manuals and most are 130 to 150 KB. in size. Matter of fact, that picture I sent to you just the other day Randy was just 147KB so that should give you an idea of how clear such files do look.
I would limit them to 250KB as the max size and that should allow for plenty of data to make the picture nice and clear and still able to be converted to .BMP files for possible PC wallpaper and look real nice Dave

Thanks Dave. That seems very reasonable. I've set the maximum size at 800x600 since the site is set at that screen size. The max file size is 250kb. The maximum total storage space for registered users is currently 10MB. I can up that some too if needed. Captain's Club Members have no storage limitation for attachments.
I would encourage members to acquire a good photo editing program and learn how to resize/compress an image. I'll research some good "shareware" products and let you know what I find out. Putershark could you write a short tutorial on image editing with screen shots that we could put in the Articles section of the site? I can do it but thought I'd see if someone else wanted to.

One of the easiest programs I have found to Resize a Picture is:
Microsoft Office Picture Manager Resize a picture Instructions 1. Select the pictures you want to work with. How? 1. Make sure the folders that contain the pictures you want to work with are displayed in the Picture Shortcuts pane. If the folders aren't listed, add them to the pane. How? 1. In the Picture Shortcuts pane, under Picture Shortcuts, click Add Picture Shortcut. 2. Browse to the folder that contains the pictures you want to work with. 3. Click Add. 2. Select the folders containing the pictures you want to work with. How? Do one of the following in the Picture Shortcuts list: To work with pictures in one folder, select the folder. To work with pictures in multiple folders that are next to each other, select the first folder in the group, hold down SHIFT, and then select the last folder in the group. To work with pictures in multiple folders that are not next to each other, select one folder, hold down CTRL, and then select each additional folder you want to work with. When multiple folders are selected, all the pictures from the selected folders are displayed in their current sort order in the preview pane. 3. Select the pictures you want to work with. How? Do one of the following in the preview pane: To select one picture, click the picture. In Thumbnail or Filmstrip view, click Next or Previous to change the picture selected. If you are working in Single Picture view, the current picture is selected by default. To select multiple pictures that are next to each other, in Thumbnail or Filmstrip view, select the first picture in the group, hold down SHIFT, and then select the last picture in the group. To select multiple pictures that are not next to each other, in Thumbnail or Filmstrip view, select one picture, hold down CTRL, and then select each additional picture you want to work with. To select all the pictures, in Thumbnail or Filmstrip view, click Select All on the Edit menu. 2. On the Formatting toolbar (toolbar: A bar with buttons and options that you use to carry out commands. To display a toolbar, click Customize on the Tools menu, and then click the Toolbars tab.), click Edit Pictures. 3. In the Edit Pictures task pane (task pane: A window within an Office application that provides commonly used commands. Its location and small size allow you to use these commands while still working on your files.), click Resize. 4. Select the options you want. Note: Office Picture Manager will always preserve the aspect ratio (aspect ratio: The ratio between picture width and picture height. This ratio can be maintained even when resizing a picture.) when resizing a picture. Note: You can undo an edit by clicking the corresponding Undo command on the Edit menu. Edits will not be saved until you save them. You can save your changes either immediately after editing the picture or at any time before closing Microsoft Office Picture Manager. What I Use: Under resize Picture, one of the options is Predefined Width x Height. Under that option, one of your choices is: Web Large (640 x 480 px). That is what I have used for most pictures I have uploaded to this site. You could also choose Web Small (448 x 336 px), E-mail Large (314 x 235 px), and E-mail Small (160 x 160 px). Great post Vic! Thanks for sharing the program you use and how to use it.
BTW I bumped up the total storage for forum photo attachments to 10MB. The storage for Photos in the Photo gallery is also 10MB. Again for Captain's Club Members there is unlimited storage for attachments.
