Lightbulb Anyone using laptop and satellite for on boat electronics?

Looks like I've sold my 210 and I'll be ordering my new 215 Chaos in a few weeks. Thinking ahead about electronics I'd like to know if anyone has considered or succeeded in using a PC laptop on your boat to interface with sonar, radar, GPS, etc. I've been thinking that a Panasonic Toughbook laptop (waterproof version) using USB interface to sonar and radar devices, along with satellite wireless internet would make for a very cool electronics setup. You'd be able to keep your electronic application up to date by upgrading the software programs and you'd have the large, high resolution LCD monitor for the display. With wireless satellite internet access you'd have access to weather information and satellite imaging for off shore water temperatures, etc. This was touched on in a previous post but I thought I'd try to start a thread about this where we coudl brainstorm the possibilities.

Dream on dreamers!

Would more imagination require less money? Actually I'll need more imagination to find more money!

Thanks Dave! I think I'm going to sell my Furuno 600, even though I've only used it twice. I'd like to get a package of electronics that are of the same brand and work together. A laptop solution would be sweet. I'm looking for GPS, fish finder, weather and radar. Any input on a 'dream' system is most appreciated.
