4-16-2006 bottom fish

well took the boat out today for a little bottom fishing, I was alone at the ramp at 5:30 am...i guess because of easter. I headed out to the local kelp beds in Lajolla. Just before the beds I dropped at about 144 feet, Got one hit fast, reeled up a nice rock fish. Then drifted some more, got one more.....while I was still drifting, i played with a 6" blue and neon green Iron...I dropped and reeled several times, when I pulled up a nice 12" OCTOPUS...cool. And that was I got today. Total gas used, from today, and the last trip out 6 months ago.....7.8 gallons....roughly 35 miles
