West Cost - Salmon - April 4th

I would really like to go out for Salmon this year for the first time. Not sure how well the Salmon fishing has been down here between Ventura and Santa Barbara, CA. I would appreciate any information on technique and location.

Have a down rigger and fish finder. Have been doing some research and read that a slow troll is necessary. Not sure about spoon types, leader lengths, and what pound line to use. I was planning on going out of Ventura Harbor and possibly heading to the oil rigs near Carpenteria.

Personally I troll with diver rather than a down rigger, a Herring dodger type of flasher and an Apex lure 5.5 inches long and I prefer blue/silver, green/silver or the ever faviorte watermellon color.

Also if you use the Apex rerig the lure using at least 30# and a new barbless hook and swivels.

I troll at 1.5 -2 kts.
