Anyone going out to Channel Is this weekend?

Going out to Santa Cruz to search down calicos, lings and try out some "Nefarious" flattie rigs! OK Nefarious, I don't have a slider(couldn't find one locally) for my weight, but I used a 3 way swivel. Everything else looks about the same. Have some blue/purple/white glow hoochies to try out and will bring along your favorite color, too. Not sure what flavor they like up here, but we'll let you know if we have any luck.

got the Hootchies!

Went to the opening of the new Bass Pro shop In Manteca, about 45 min away with the objective of getting some Nefarious hootchies. (Ya never know what you may become infamous for) Boy was that a zoo. Got the hootchies and a few other sundries and the wife and I made our escape. I hope there will come a time that it slows down some because i would like to really look around and maybe even see the upstairs stuff. There had to be ten thousand people there. No really, in the store. I'm not that good in crowds like that but I got my hootchies by jingo.

Cool bass pro

While you were in Bass pro shops did you look at the "Happy Troller " plate to slow your boat down? by the way 3-way swivels work just fine. The only reason I use a sinker slide is to drop back after short bite, hope for a rebite. Good to hear that I'm not the only fisherman not good with crowds. Someday I coming up that way to fish the bay, hear they have a large tournement for the Butts. If you hear of it and when, please let me know. That bay has to hold tons of Flatties

Way cool

No I didn't look for the trolling plate cause I didn't stay long enough. It took 20 min just to get through checkout. Love to host if you do come for the flatties, there's a bunch. guest rm avail. The biggest I'm told are just outside the gate around Seal Rock but I haven't ventured out that far yet in my little 170. trolling plate will have to wait for a bit. Saw one on a "Fisher" yesterday and spoke to the fella. It looks like it would mount ok over my Bob's Machine stabilizer plate.

Questions

I don't know for sure but looking at it I believe it to be possible. Might need a hole or 2 repositioned. Let me know what they say.

Good news bad news

Good news....the Nefarious rigs worked fine, no major tangles, bounced along the bottom, drifted away, bait stayed seperate from weight, etc. Bad news...no flatties anywhere on the east side of Santa Cruz. Came across another boater who even had a flattie stamped on the side of his boat next to the name of the boat .....hmmm, he's drift fishing too... so I pull along side and he tells me nada dada boom...no flatties and we're right on top of where they usually kill em. So, Nefarious, the jury is still out on the Channel Island flatties and the infamous rigs. Brought the boat back home to central cal this weekend as I needed to get it out of Oxnard. This may be it for the season unless anyone is up to a flattie party in the SF bay or central coast. Don't know those areas, yet. Would love to come down south next year and fish the yellows and dodos.

Santa Cruz

Hi Katfish, I spoke with a fisherman from Santa Cruz the other day and he said the flatties have dropped off dramatically. Supposedly there are still Halibut in the SF bay and outside. I haven't been out there this week due to Lowrance problems, no GPS. (and a ton of work at home). I don't "know" the area, but I have done some research on the area. I'll probably be going back out this week or next. I need at least 1 more for the freezer. I'd love the company,I can't find any of my friends who will go out during the week and their weekends are full. That's what I get for retiring early. Let me know.

If you are referring to the stabilizer plate, I ordered mine last week......just through their website. I can get you the url if you are interested. They just needed the boat manufacturer, and length, motor manufacturer and model. They take care of the rest.
