polyethylene rod question

I bought a plastic welder to repair some gouges in my hull. Now I am trying to find some polyethelene rods and I am finding that there are low density (LDPE), and high density (HDPE or UHMW) polyethelenes out there. Does anyone lnow which one I should ask for? There are no Triumph dealers in New Hampshire (what's up with that?) so I intend to get it a plastic supply house or order it from the internet.

Thanks for any helpyou can give me.

You may be able to purchase these from Merritt Marine I'm not sure but I'm sure Dick at Merritt can answer the question for you. Sorry I don't know. You can use the "Parts" form on the MerrittMarine.com website to request it or give him a call if Dick doesn't answer here soon.

I believe you will find that the material is HDPE Marine. Dealers can supply rod and powder from Triumph, which somewhat guarantees color-match

Yeah, matching the color would be nice. There are no dealers within 80 miles of me. I don't want to drive that far for some plastic. Both of the dealers who were in New Hampshire are no longer carrying Triumph, and Triumph is no help.

You should be able to have the rods mailed to you. If you go to mc mastercarr and type in HDPE in search you can see what you want to order. I believe you want HDPE as far as the colors from what my suppliers tell me at work the shade varies from different manufactures.

Below came from Mc MasterCarr

High-density polyethylene (HDPE), shares the moisture resistance of LDPE, yet offers more rigidity and better heat resistance. Often used in pipe, shipping pallets, and truck bed liners.

Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE): With excellent moisture resistance, LDPE is ideal for high humidity and direct water contact applications. Includes Visqueen.

Dick should be able to confirm what you should use

I just talked with Dick at Merritt Marine on the phone and my plastic rods and powder are on their way to me. I picked up a tube of Rule also. I've always used latex caulk, but I am sure the Rule will be better. Dick is a good guy to work with and it will be nice to fill in the gouges on the side of my boat.
