Registration Numbers

I have a request for on post in the article section about how to install registration numbers. For new owners, Triumph use to have this info in Faq section but can't find it. Will a dealer provide me with what I need to install them on a new purchase (except the numbers of course).

Hi Pete. That is a great idea and something I've been meaning to do for some time but just never got around to. I'd like to post articles on applying stickers, cleaning your Triumph, repairing scratches, welding Roplene, etc. Be patient with me!

You'll need 3M primer and very lightly sand the area where your numbers will go. Get them to give you some, mine charged me only $50 for a pint!

1. determine place for numbers
2. very lightly sand the area
3. paint on 3M primer with brush
4. let dry or better yet, warm-dry the area with a hair dryer
5. Peel and stick numbers
6. clean up areas of 3M primer not covered with decals with mineral spirits

Think that's it.

I have never used the primer. this is what I use. At any hardware store. You can by #'s. I buy the ones that come with the reflective back ground. It has the same glue as the DMV year sticker. They stay on very nice. In the 4 years of my boat. I have only lost 2 #'s. Thats useing pressure washers and hand washing.

I just recently had to change my numbers from Oklahoma to Florida. After pealing off the old numbers I used Goo-B-Gone to remove any adhesive residue. Then cleaned area with good cleaner, I like Orange Clean. Now ready to apply new numbers, I flashed the area with a propane torch. I had remembered this from the old web site and finally had the opportunity to use it and it works great.

My dealer put my registration numbers on and I have not had any problem with them. I think he just wiped down the area with acetone and stuck them on. I have a plastic decal fish ruler that I stuck to the inside gunwale above my rod locker (17 bass). It has been there for 3 years without a problem, not even a corner peeled up, and all I did was wipe down the area with acetone. I do the same thing for the registration decals New Hampahire requires every year. I have to scrape off the old ones with a razor blade they stick so well.

Forget the primer - acetone is cheap and easy and best of all; it works!

I cleaned mine very well and then flashed the area with a propane torch (be careful with the propane torch on the Roplene). I then put 94 primer on it and the numbers have stuck well.
